JULY 2014 WORKSHOP UPDATE

Due to the Met Eireann forecast of wet & windy weather for the weekend of 5th & 6th July, 2014, it has been decided, due to the possible health & safety risks to those participating in the weekend workshop, to postpone the workshop until the following weekend, ie 12th & 13th July, 2014.

There is still time to book your place on the course.
Call Andy on 087-4112991 now for more details.

Learn the Fundamental Skills of Traditional Dry Stone Walling Course
After the successes of our previous weekend courses, we are pleased to announce three more early summer weekend course dates for our 'Basic Skills Programme'.

The basic skills you will learn and master with confidence during these weekend non-residential course’s, will enable you to rebuild a broken down wall; construct a new wall from scratch; or adapt the skills learnt to suit many a garden project. We hope that you will enjoy the course, as others have done before you and come to appreciate the aesthetic qualities of stone as a long lasting monument to your newly honed skills.

Courses will be run in the heart of the beautiful Co Roscommon countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of city life and begin with a necessary safety instruction, before continuing with the hands on experience. As might be expected, manual labour activity can be strenuous, lifting heavy stones exhausting, but the pleasure derived from seeing your own 'construction' building in front of your eyes is well worth the effort. (Please note that you will never be asked to overexert yourself. Also, as the course is held outdoors, please dress appropriately for the Irish weather!)

Course Dates:
*Saturday 10th to Sunday 11th May, 2014.
*Saturday 7th to Sunday 8th June, 2014.
*Saturday 12th to Sunday 13th July, 2014

*All courses begin daily at 9.30am, lunch is supplied.
*Maximum number of course participants is ten (10).
*Cost is €60 per person for one day or €100 for the weekend.
*Group discounts apply, please ask for more information.

Learning The Fundamentals Of Traditional Dry Stone Walling - Weekend Course

Building with dry stone is one of the oldest skills developed by 'modern man' & has been used to construct buildings, shelters, ceremonial objects as well as walls & boundary markers.

Dry stone walling is so durable because it contains no mortar to crack & fail during the normal weathering process & it is the builder's skill in arranging the stones so that the stone's weight & shape bind the wall together & so remain intact, even during the most inclement weather.

Course Date:
Saturday 1st June - Sunday 2nd June, 2013. (9:30am - 5:00pm)
Maximum number on any one course is 10.
Cost per person €100.00 (Group discounts available).

More examples of dry stone walling

Here are two more examples of dry stone constructions i've recently completed, the first is a raised flowerbed outside of the cafe at the Cruachan Ai in Tulsk, the second is a retaining wall built for friends up in Arigna.
